Abstract

Climate change significantly affects the tropical rainforest ecosystem in East Kalimantan, which plays a crucial role in maintaining global ecological balance. Rising temperatures, shifts in rainfall patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events have led to forest degradation, loss of biodiversity, and diminished ecosystem functions. Human activities such as deforestation and infrastructure development exacerbate these issues. This environmental crisis not only endangers ecosystems but also threatens the livelihoods of local communities reliant on natural resources, decreasing access to clean water and increasing the risk of natural disasters. This study aims to assess the impact of climate change and the factors worsening the environmental crisis in East Kalimantan, with the goal of contributing to rainforest conservation, environmental improvement, and the support of sustainable development policies, as well as effective mitigation and adaptation strategies
